Creative Code Lab 3 (WS2022)

#/Media & Digital Technologies #Creative Computing (BA) #Student projects

The third Creative Code Lab of the bachelor degree programme Creative Computing focuses on the design, development, and evaluation of mobile applications. Here you can find an overview of the Lab's results.

At the end of the winter semester 2022/23, the students had two weeks to leverage what they had learnt throughout the semester into developing their mobile apps. In teams of 2-3 students each, they worked on their app ideas, improved their prototypes, implemented the apps for native Android, tested the app with users, and reported their results. Following this intensive work, the students built creative and functional apps, some of which are presented here.

OMME

OMME is a digital mood tracker application. We wanted to provide a way for people to vent their emotions and write down their thoughts on a daily basis. To do that we came up with, what we call mood faces. The idea is that people create a daily post about their internal feelings and emotions and give the day a face depending on how it went for them. The user can also see a complete overview of all the faces they assigned to each day in order to reflect on them. One of the problems we wanted to solve was to remove any stigmas surrounding journaling and mood tracking by gamifying it to make it more engaging and personal.

StopGuessing

"Stop Guessing" is a mobile Android app that lets users follow “The Zone” diet. This is accomplished by letting the users add ingredients and their meal plan characteristics/rules they need to follow (which we call Blueprints). Based on the ingredients' characteristics, and the meal blueprints, the users are able to get a meal plan that will let them know how much of each ingredient they need to eat in order to perfectly fulfil their diet.

LiftList

LiftList is an Android workout planner, tracker, and timer. Users can use LiftList to store and edit workout plans and track their workouts. It is possible to either use a workout plan as a template or create an empty one. Users can save sets and reps performed, weights used, time taken, and add notes. They can also tick off exercises in realtime and add extra exercises if necessary. Additionally, users can see past workouts in a list and time their workout rests.

BIME – Balance Your Time

BIME was created to support users in taking care of their well-being. With BIME, users can track their work hours and free time, get an overview of their work-life balance, and take care of themselves by taking time off. Users can interact with the app by adding entries for "Busy Time" and "Free Time" including the hours spent. They can also update and delete these entries and get more details in a weekly overview.
