Usability Lab

The Usability Lab serves to examine user friendliness and user behaviour in various areas of application. It consists of two rooms, which are separated by a one-sided mirror wall:

  • a test room to work with study participants,
  • and an observation room to analyse the test situation.

This allows for tests and interviews to be conducted without making the study participants feel observed.

Equipment and Use

The lab is equipped with an eye-tracking solution and the software iMotions. If combined, they can be used for behavioural research such as usability and advertising effectiveness tests. Eye movement and other physiological data such as the Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) can also be recorded and evaluated. This makes it possible to record emotions, stress, and other reactions.

A simple driving simulator with a steering wheel and pedals allows for mobile apps tests in settings with many distractions.

Next to the various testing possibilities, the lab also offers the ideal environment to practice or carry out consultations such as dietary counselling, addiction counselling, or patient interviews within the framework of research and teaching.

The test room is equipped with an office workstation and a seating area, which imitates a living room situation. The various test settings are designed to make study participants feel comfortable. All actions can be closely monitored through an observation system, which also allows for the recording of images, audio, and screen content.

In addition, the lab can be used for courses with student groups (up to 18 persons).
