(General information on studying abroad, Blended Intensive Programmes & internships abroad)

Students can apply for an Erasmus+ grant for the following mobilities:

• Study abroad (long-term mobility): 1 semester at an Erasmus partner university
• Short-term mobility: 5-30 days in the context of a Blended Intensive Programme at an Erasmus partner university
• Internship in another European country. Graduates can follow up their degree with an Erasmus+ funded internship abroad.

Erasmus+ Programme Countries

All EU member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Northern Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, and Turkey.

Erasmus+ Partner Countries

All other countries are considered Erasmus+ partner countries. Erasmus+ funds for mobilities to Erasmus+ partner countries are limited, as only a small part of the total budget is earmarked for mobilities to non-programme countries.

Study abroad periods at a partner university in one of the Erasmus+ partner countries can only be completed if there is an Erasmus cooperation with the respective partner university and sufficient Erasmus+ funds are still available for mobilities to partner countries. The amount of the Erasmus+ grant is determined annually by the Austrian National Agency Erasmus+ and is based on the cost of living in the individual countries. The application and payment of the Erasmus+ grant are processed by the UAS service unit International Office. The awarding of the grants is based on the availability of the existing Erasmus+ funds.

Erasmus+ grand amounts  

Each student can be funded for up to 12 months per study cycle (bachelor degree, master degree) for study visits (long- and short-term mobilities) and/or internships with Erasmus+. Therefore, multiple stays abroad are also possible within the framework of one study cycle.

Top-ups: In addition to the Erasmus+ grant, other financial support can be applied for:

• Green Travel: travel cost support for environmentally friendly travel.
• Fewer Opportunities please note that this top-up can only be applied for once, even if you belong to more than one of the groups:
  
  • Students with children in need of care who need to be taken to the study/internship site
  • students with disabilities if, due to their disability, they have increased financial expenses during the stay abroad (compared to the stay in Austria)
  • students with chronic illness if, due to their illness, they have increased financial expenses during the stay abroad (compared to the stay in Austria)
• Inclusion support: If the top-up for students with fewer opportunities is not sufficient, Erasmus+ participants with disabilities or chronic illness can apply for inclusion support instead.

In addition to the Erasmus+ grant, the European Commission offers free online language tests and language courses for Erasmus students to help improve language skills (language of instruction or work, national language).

Erasmus+ Study Visit 

Students studying abroad at one of our Erasmus partner universities can apply for an Erasmus+ grant. The application for the grant is made at the UAS service unit International Office. Erasmus students do not pay tuition fees at the host university. Free movers and students who study at partner universities but are not participating in the Erasmus+ programme cannot apply for an Erasmus+ grant.

Minimum duration of stay: 2 months

Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs)

Students who complete a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) at one of our Erasmus partner universities can apply for an Erasmus+ grant. The application for the grant is made through the UAS service unit International Office. Erasmus students do not pay tuition fees at the host university.

Information on which Blended Intensive Programmes are offered in each academic year and whether those are appropriate for your study programme can be found on the eCampus or on our BIP website.

Duration of stay: 5-30 days (physical stay) + virtual part (both parts are mandatory) Important: Blended Intensive Programmes hosted (in-house) by the St. Pölten UAS are not eligible for funding. Local students are nevertheless welcome to participate.

Blended Intensive Programmes at St. Pölten UAS

Erasmus+ Internship Stay 

Students who complete an internship abroad (compulsory internship, voluntary internship, or graduate internship) of at least 2 to 12 months in another European country can apply for an Erasmus+ grant through the UAS service unit International Office.

Minimum duration of stay: 2 months

(studying abroad & internships abroad at a partner university)

Switzerland no longer participates in the Erasmus programme. Study stays of students from Austrian universities at Swiss partner universities are funded by the “Swiss-European Mobility Programme” with approximately CHF 2,000 per semester (currency converter). Internships that take place directly at a Swiss university are funded with CHF 420 per month (currency converter). The payment of these grants is made directly by the Swiss universities.

(study allowance recipients )

Study allowance recipients can apply for a “study abroad grant” at the Study Grant Authority Vienna (Studienbeihilfenbehörde) if they complete a semester abroad.

To apply for the study abroad grant, please fill out

• the form “SB-AS1 (application for study abroad grant)” of the Study Grant Authority and together with the
• “Confirmation of Completion and Equivalency of Studies Abroad” (which you will receive from the UAS service unit International Office of the St. Pölten UAS)

and send them to the Study Grant Authority Vienna.

Students who go abroad to study when they are in the 3^rd semester of their bachelor degree programme cannot apply for the study abroad grant until they are actually enrolled in the 3^rd semester of their studies at the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences. Therefore, these students can only send the application form for the study abroad grant to the Study Grant Authority Vienna in September/October, otherwise the application for the study abroad grant will be rejected by the Study Grant Authority for formal reasons.

Since the academic year 2019/20, Erasmus students can receive both the Erasmus+ grant and the study abroad grant at the same time. In case of a status change, the UAS service unit International Office must be informed immediately via email. 

After completion of the study abroad and recognition of the foreign certificate at the St. Pölten UAS, the form "SB-AS2 (transcript of records study abroad stay)" has to be signed and sent to the Study Grant Authority Vienna (at the latest within the application deadline of the following semester, otherwise the study grant has to be repaid).

Top Study Abroad Grants of the Province of Lower Austria 

(study abroad & internship abroad)

The province of Lower Austria awards study abroad grants to UAS students of all study programmes who have had their main or secondary residence in Lower Austria continuously since the cut-off date of 01/01/2019, and who complete a minimum of 3 months of creditable study or internship abroad in their bachelor degree programme or their first master degree programme. Continuing education programmes are not eligible for funding.

Application throughout the year exclusively after the end of the stay!

Deadline: maximum three months after the end of the stay.

ARGE Donauländer Stipendium

(study abroad, internship abroad & international activities)

Students can apply for funding (up to EUR 1,000) for stays abroad in the context of education, training, and continuing education in the fields of science, art, culture, and administration.

Funding is available for incoming and outgoing mobilities, ranging from a duration of approximately two weeks to a maximum of six months for activities in the above-mentioned fields. Grants can be awarded on the basis of citizenship and main residence in a member region of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Donauländer. The age limit for this grant is 35 years.

Grants of Other Federal States 

(study abroad & internship abroad)

Other federal states also award grants to students whose main residence is in the respective federal state (e.g., Burgenland, Carinthia, Styria, Tyrol, Vorarlberg). The province of Vienna does not provide any funding. Further information can be found in the grant database of the OeAD.

(study abroad & research stays abroad)

Technology students pursuing at least 3 months of creditable study or research at a university / research institute in the US are eligible to apply for a Marshall Plan scholarship.

• Scholarship amount: max. EUR 10,000
• The nomination takes place at the UAS service unit International Office. Prior to their nomination, students must submit a research proposal. Deadlines for registration and submission of the research paper to the UAS service unit International Office: 15 April (for stays abroad in the winter semester), 15 October (for stays abroad in the summer semester).

(study abroad & internship abroad)

The Fernseh- und Kinotechnische Gesellschaft e.V. (FKTG) in Berlin provides grants for stays abroad for study and/or internship purposes for up to 6 months, to students of technology, industrial engineering, and related natural sciences whose work and interests focus on the field of technologies for electronic media. The amount of the grant, which can be up to EUR 3,000, is determined by the purpose of the stay and the submitted cost calculation, and is set by the FKTG Board of Directors.

This study abroad grant is aimed at bachelor and master degree students at universities as well as graduates. Preference is given to those areas that are of particular importance to the Austrian economy. The funding is available for a minimum of one semester and a maximum of two semesters and can be applied for at the scholarship fund up to four weeks before the start of the stay abroad. The amount of funding depends on the Julius Raab Foundation budget, and may be granted to students/graduates under the age of 30.

Students studying at one of our partner universities outside of Europe for a whole semester may apply for the Society for the Promotion of the St Pölten University of Applied Sciences (Förderverein der Fachhochschule St. Pölten GmbH) Travel Grant.

A jury will award the Travel Grant amounting EUR 1,000 to 2-5 students per academic year, taking the quality of the application into account.
