Creative Computing Competitions in 2024
Showcasing talent: We congratulate our students on their outstanding achievements in the past year
In 2024, Creative Computing students showcased their talents by participating in various competitions and delivering outstanding projects. Their innovative approaches, technical skills, and creative expertise shone in areas such as Virtual Reality, game development, and coding.
"There are two reasons why I am delighted with the many successes achieved by the students and graduates of our study programme Creative Computing", says Academic Director Markus Seidl. "Firstly, they demonstrate the value of this comprehensive education in creativity & coding for digital artefacts for the people's benefit. And secondly, I appreciate the extra-curricular commitment that should by rights be regarded just as highly as studying for exams."
Below is an overview of some of the year's remarkable achievements.
Culture Game Jam 2024
From 13 to 15 September 2024, a team of four Creative Computing students – Georg Becker, Laura Cesar, Xaver Drabik, and Christof Kuba – along with industry professionals, hobbyists, and other students participated in the first Culture Game Jam at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna.

Over the course of 48 hours, the team Lidar-scanned parts of the Belvedere Museum, modelled and hand-painted assets, recorded audio, and coded game logic and shaders.
They created an immersive Virtual Reality experience in which players are tasked by Prince Eugen to enter his cursed paintings with the goal of restoring them to their original form and lifting his curse.
The team secured 3rd place and earned particularly high marks from the technical jury.
Cloudflight Coding Contest 2024
On 25 October 2024, three teams from Creative Computing took part in the Cloudflight Coding Contest, a global event focused on solving a level-based coding game.
One of the three participating Creative Computing student teams (consisting of Johanna Mayr and Joshua Tjhie) achieved 3rd place at the St. Pölten site, marking a notable accomplishment in the local competition.

Tourism Technology Festival 2.0
On 9-10 November 2024, a team of Creative Computing students (Laura Cesar, Sofiia-Khrystyna Borysiuk, Xaver Drabik, Florian Kraushofer, and Christof Kuba) participated in the Tourism Technology Festival Hackathon at the “Alles für den Gast” fair in Salzburg.
They created an immersive Virtual Reality travel experience designed to promote relaxation by combining drone footage, 3D models, and custom nature soundscapes of scenic Austrian locations. The team's work was awarded the Best VR Project prize at the event.
