Healthcare and Nursing: Record Number of Students
Approximately 140 New Students This Semester – Additional Admission and Application for Healthcare and Nursing for the Summer Semester Still Open
The St. Pölten UAS celebrates a record number of new students for its study programme Healthcare and Nursing: 142 were admitted to start this semester.
From February 2022, the degree programme, which used to begin in the winter semester only, will offer an additional start in the summer semester. Prospective students can apply until 15 October.
Preparing Students for Patients’ Needs
This study programme provides the students with the necessary knowledge and skills for a career in the healthcare and nursing sector. It features a modular structure, is based on state-of-the-art scientific findings, and gives the students a sound knowledge of diagnostic, rehabilitative and therapeutic measures to maintain health and prevent disease.
The students receive the best possible preparation for the patients’ needs and demands in the individual occupational fields. In addition to sound practical skills, the students acquire interdisciplinary competencies such as person-related, organisational, and social professional expertise, self competence as well as scientific expertise.
“In this context, we place great emphasis on both theoretical knowledge transfer and educational elements from occupational practice: half of the training takes place within the framework of internships in different specialist areas”, explains Academic Director Petra Ganaus.
Practical Education as Preparation for Professional Life
Practical study phases are part of every semester. These practice phases take place in a number of different specialist areas at the national and international levels – the UAS has numerous collaborations, for example in the USA, Switzerland, Germany and other countries. The graduates’ career options are sheer endless and cover everything from clinical facilities, long-term care facilities and primary care centres through nursing care at home to freelance work, the emergency services, and preventive healthcare.
Study Programme of Six to Seven Semesters
For students starting in February, the programme covers six semesters. Students beginning in the autumn, on the other hand, have the optional possibility to complete the further education programme Preclinical Care and Nursing with an additional semester: in the seven-semester bachelor degree programme Healthcare and Nursing PLUS, they acquire the necessary qualification to work as first- and second-level emergency medical technicians in addition to healthcare and nursing professionals.
In keeping with the COVID-19 pandemic, the team of the degree programme Healthcare and Nursing PLUS welcomed the new students with a specifically created video (designed by UAS lecturer Lisa Brunhuber) and wished them a lot of success in the upcoming study year.
