International Women’s* Day 2023
Against Discrimination of Any Kind
Today’s International Women's* Day, on 8 March, draws attention to continuing inequalities and discrimination based on gender. Through an increasingly intersectional understanding, connections to discrimination based on gender identity, origin, disability, etc. are also taken into account.
Discrimination Is Manifold and Also Occurs on Small Scales
Many of us are unfortunately very familiar with discrimination and devaluation in everyday life.
- For example, phrases that superficially appear to be compliments but are actually verbal sexual harassments. They are demonstrations of power, act as social ushers, and can trigger anger, fear, and shame in us.
- For example, discriminatory myths that reinforce traditional prejudices and are not always easy to invalidate because they are so-called “killer phrases”.
This makes it all the more important to take a clear stand against sexualised discrimination and to take action against it.
Resources for Counterspeech
There are numerous books and other resources to help combat everyday discrimination and depreciative sayings.
