Hands-on Insights into Generative AI: St. Pölten UAS Organises Workshop Day in Collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
The St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences uses Generative AI both in applied research projects and in teaching. Andreas Jakl, lecturer in the degree programme Digital Healthcare, recently organised a one-day workshop for UAS staff members in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
In this workshop, two AWS Solution Architects presented not only the basics but also a variety of hands-on examples for individual experiments. The afternoon was fully dedicated to the topic of Generative AI.
Generative AI in Research & Teaching
"This technology has become widely known through ChatGPT. By now, there are many possibilities for integrating such services into one’s own project", explains Jakl. "For students, it is very important to not only understand the user’s perspective but to learn how AI systems are trained and how they can be adapted to specific use cases in companies. Moreover, it is decisive that these technologies are integrated into larger systems in a secure and trustworthy manner."
Eleven employees of the St. Pölten UAS took part in this workshop in order to deepen their knowledge of Machine Learning Operations (MLOps), Cloud Services, and Generative AI. The participants discussed models including Meta Llama and services such as Amazon Bedrock for addressing a multitude of AI models as well as methods like fine-tuning that adapt data for Large Language Models.
Workshops of this kind allow the St. Pölten UAS to expand its expertise in the field of artificial intelligence and to develop innovative solutions to important societal questions in both research projects and teaching.
