Christine Pomikal Took Over as Head on 3 April

The St. Pölten UAS has appointed a new Head of the Department of Health Sciences. Christine Pomikal has extensive experience in the higher education area in both teaching and research. The Department educates students in three bachelor degree programmes, one master degree programme as well as in continuing education programmes, and conducts research on the further development of healthcare in the Center for Digital Health and Social Innovation.

The Department of Health Sciences has grown significantly in recent years in both teaching and research. “Christine Pomikal is very familiar with the diverse challenges in healthcare. We are very pleased that we were able to win her for this responsible position”, emphasise Hannes Raffaseder and Johann Haag, Executive Directors of the St. Pölten UAS.

Extensive Experience

“I am very much looking forward to the new challenge and the chance to work on the further development of the Department of Health Sciences. The St. Pölten UAS allows for an ideal interweaving of teaching and research and thus offers a great environment to work on the further development of the healthcare sector”, says Christine Pomikal.

Dr. Christine Pomikal has many years of extensive experience in higher education, including as a lecturer at universities of applied sciences and in the development and quality assurance of curricula. Previously, she was the head of the Seegasse Training Center of Caritas Vienna and worked in fundamental research at the Medical University of Vienna.

(Continuing) Education for a Modern Healthcare System

The Department of Health Sciences at the St. Pölten UAS provides the education needed to work in a modern healthcare system. Currently, more than 600 degree and non-degree students are studying at the Department in the bachelor degree programmes in Dietetics, Physiotherapy, and Healthcare and NursingPLUS as well as in the interdisciplinary master degree programme in Digital Healthcare and five continuing education programmes.

Closely intertwined with teaching is the research at the Institute for Health Sciences and the Center for Digital Health and Social Innovation. The applied research work focuses in particular on the areas of “Health Sciences” (Dietetic Research, Health and Nursing Sciences, and Physiotherapy Sciences) and “Lifelong Learning”.
