My Semester with the iLab: I Acquired Unexpected Skills
Student Story: Orin D'Hauwer
Orin D’Hauwer, a Social Work student from Antwerp, visited the St. Pölten UAS as an incoming student and took this opportunity to participate in the iLab for a semester.
What exactly is the iLab?
Expect the unexpected
As a Social Worker, Orin did not expect to develop skills such as entrepreneurship or business design in the course of this programme.
- However, I’m actually quite good at it, she says.
- You can also develop other skills in the iLab such as group dynamics or leadership – and learn to work in an interdisciplinary team. After all, the group members come not only from different countries, but also from different fields of study.
Orin found it very important to learn how a team with such diverse skillsets can be coordinated, and how these skills can be put to the best use.
And would you recommend the iLab to other students?
– Absolutely! It is a very flexible programme that leaves you a lot of freedom.
Together with her team, Orin developed a Green Den, as you can see in the pictures below. And so it came to pass that birdsong could be heard on campus.

For details on Orin’s project, listen to the interesting podcast episode below (in English, the iLab’s working language). Speaking to Orin is Sophia Olesko, Media Management student and programme assistant at the Campus and City Radio St. Pölten.
