UAS Achieves Great Success at GAMMA Congress
Several awards for academic papers in the field of motion analysis

At this year’s congress of the ”Gesellschaft für die Analyse Menschlicher Motorik und ihrer klinischen Anwendung” (society for the analysis of human motor skills and their clinical application, GAMMA) in Zurich, the St. Pölten UAS was able to convince the audience in multiple respects. Under the motto “Mehrwert der Bewegungsanalyse in Klinik und Sport“(added value of gait analysis in clinics and sports), the congress brought together more than 150 experts from the German-speaking area at the Children’s Hospital of St. Gallen.
The team of the Center for Digital Health and Social Innovation under the leadership of Brian Horsak, Djordje Slijepcevic, and Bernhard Dumphart celebrated more than one success on this occasion:
- Djordje Slijepcevic achieved third place in the GAMMA Science Award with his publication “Explainable Machine Learning in Human Gait Analysis: A Study on Children With Cerebral Palsy“.
- What was especially gratifying: Bernhard Dumphart won the conference’s Best Paper Award for his work “Multicenter evaluation of a machine learning-based gait event detection algorithm“.
- Bernhard Guggenberger, PhD student at the University of Graz, received the GAMMA Science Award endowed with EUR 2,000 for the best publication in clinical gait analysis. His work “Patient-specific gait pattern in individuals with patellofemoral instability reduces knee joint loads“ was co-supervised by Brian Horsak.
Finally, Brian Horsak had the pleasure to announce that the GAMMA Congress 2027 will take place at the St. Pölten UAS – a great honour and acknowledgement of the team’s scientific work in the field of gait analysis.
