Course Contents

Bachelor programme Media Technology

The curriculum for the Bachelor's degree programme in Media Technology is wide-ranging and offers you a technical, information technological and creative basis for the future.

In the first two semesters, you will acquire the content-related, creative and technical knowledge as well as the specialist know-how for your respective majors and specialisations. In the specialisation course from the 3rd semester onwards, you can choose your specialisation in addition to the two specialisations Interactive Media and Audio/Video Technology (see below for details).

In the practical phase in the 5th and 6th semesters, you will put your specialist knowledge into practice.

Basic Studies (1st & 2nd Semester)

You acquire insights into basic audio and video technology, as well as interactive media. Further you learn how to independently use audio-visual equipment and software for recording, editing and storage. You are also introduced to client-side programming, internet-application design and usability.

The basic media technology elements of the programme give you a grounding in IT and programming, network technology and mathematics, all of which are required for subsequent courses.

You also acquire key, fundamental skills in the practical applications of media technologies, ranging from photography and basic print production to event and media technology (such as sound, lighting and projection).

Advanced Studies 

The advanced studies begin in the 3rd semester. You can choose a specialisation and a compulsory elective subject.

Students select one of two specialisations:

Audio and Video Technology

Digital Media Computing

Projects give you the opportunity to apply their expertise and project management know-how in practice, as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Elective Modules

In the specialisation study from the 3rd semester you choose a specialisation in the following subject areas for two semesters:

  • Digital game production: development of innovative multimedia games
  • Experimental media: media art, media design and digital-media technologies
  • Film and TV: creation, planning and production of TV content
  • Music theory and music production: technologies of media-music production
  • Real-time graphics and engines: conveyance of real-time technologies
  • Data and information visualisation: image conception and image design of complex data
  • Artificial intelligence and computer vision: data science and pattern recognition
  • 2D game animation: 2D animations for digital games
  • Ad design & creation: implementation of social media and cross media campaigns

Interdisciplinary Elective Module

The iLab programme allows you to participate in an interdisciplinary and intercultural project semester with the working language being English. 

Cooperations: Strong Partners

During the study, you already have direct contact with the economy through numerous cooperations with companies. Through your projects, bachelor theses or as part of their vocational internship you actively contribute your know-how to your partner companies. International orientation is explicitly promoted, you can spend a semester abroad at partner universities, complete a European Project Semester (EPS) or an Interdisciplinary Lab (iLab).
